I have a dvd hdd recorder with a sd tuner in built. My question is how to record 1 channel and watch another at the same time. We have pretty bad tv reception where we live, and the only way to get decent reception is through a sd set top box, is there any way to split the signal from the aerial so as the hhd recorder and tv share the sd tuner at the same time. The hdd recorder is connected to the tv through rca connection. I apologise if this doesnt make sense, i hope you get what i mean

No I'm afraid it cannot be done.

1 Tuner can hand 1 Channel at any time.

You need another tuner.

Buy a cheap 2nd SD tuner. You should be able to split the aerial into both and then use on different inputs on the TV.

I recently had a TV antenna installed on the roof, the tech guy said if you install a splitter, the quality of the TV signal will be reduced by 50% if you use it or not

Grap an SD PVR! Topfield preferably.

I have bought two off this Seller and can recommend them.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250275234015&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching
(That was a bargain for the 4400)

The 5000 Topfield is the better SD PVR (The 4400 is fine for your application though) and sells for around $240 from that Seller.

With that set up your antenna lead goes to the Topfield PVR and the PVR is connected to your TV and DVD Recorder.

With that set up you can record 2 programs at once and watch a third different program/channel via the TV's inbuilt SD tuner if you wish.

You can then transfer recorded programs off the PVR's HDD to your DVD Recorder or just store them on the PVR.

WARNING: DO NOT be tempted with the multitude of cheaper Twin Tuner PVRs out there. Some are not true twin tuners although they claim to be and most do not have the better tuners for picking up weaker digital signals.

I have it split 7 ways at present. Maybe analogue you see the quality go out the windows but not on good set top boxes or pvr's.

We had boosters installed for annalogue ages ago. The strong stb/pvr's and ex87 all come out quite well split 7 ways. We have two tv's with strong pvr's and one tv with a strong pvr and ex87 connected up and the other 5 going into 5 different computers via tuner cards.

The ex87 tuner not as good as the strong tuner. The tuner pc cards not as good as the ex87.

When we get the new sammy a680 telly that will make an 8 way split on the one telly aerial.
