Hey everyone.

I've been trying to download the WoW trial client onto my Eee PC, but it always cuts out saying "Connection to server reset", and my little wireless icon in the taskbar has a red X until it reconnects. Does anyone know why this is happening? It downloads at about 550kbs and the max I've been able to get it to download to is 470mb.

Thanks for any help.

Hi nVidia-fanboy.

Sounds like a Wi-Fi issue and not a Gamearena issue. Best off checking for interference ie: no other wifi transmitters like av foxtel sender/receive or make sure the Wifi modem is not next to a cordless base.

Is It inbuilt Wifi or currenty using BigPond's Netgear Wg111v2?

If Netgear, try connecting the silver usb cable that comes in the pack to the desktop first then plugging the netgear into the USB netgear, helps reduce interference from the desktop.

Also which modem SpeedStream or 2wire 2701 HGV-W or BYO modem?

Multiple fix's you could try. Just need a bit more information

Try using a cable instead of a wi-fi, or if not use a download manager. GameArena will allow that (as long as it's no more than 2 connections at once), and when the download cuts out then you can resume it.

I use one called Free Download Manager, obviously it's free and works well, little buggy I found but it resumes fine which is what I want it for.

All good advice above. You might also check whether there is a driver or wireless client update for your Eee: my laptop wireless connection was pretty unstable but an update fixed it.

Cordless base as in for a cordless phone? Since we got wireless we've never been able to use a cordless phone as it keeps interfering with the wireless modem. We never bothered to fix it.

It's inbuilt (on the Eee). I guess I could attach the Netgear, not sure how I'd install the Bigpond software as the Eee has no optical drive. I might have to rip the CD and mount it using Daemon Tools?

But I do use the silver cable when the Netgear is plugged into my desktop PC.

Um it's a Motorola SBG900 Surfboard Gateway modem.

Cool, I'll take a look at that. I wasn't sure if I should've used a download manager because I used Getright a while ago and some of the downloads from it counted to my usage. Didn't know that it was 2 max though.

Cool, will do!

Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot sometime soon.

Ahh bumma. 5.8ghz work best with Wifi modems from BigPond.

Ahh ok. Try a different channel for the wifi. Channel 11/6/2 I find to be the best channels. If keeps happening, try a hard reset on the modem. If same issue continue possiable faulty modem maybe.

Best to try ethernet as well to see if same issue.

I've used 'Download Accelerator' with BP.com before in GameArena, when on ADSL2+ I use to download @ 1.67MB/sec. If on 8mbit Cable, should be able to least get 1.10MB/sec or if on Extreme at least more if the cable is not too congested. Most of my friends use to achive the speeds, actual speeds may be slower :/ (As BigPond would say)

Nope, the main reason I'm downloading from Gamearena is because the downloads don't count towards my usage. If I did download that from the WoW site I would imagine it would come out to read something like 4gbs of downloads, Telstra's meter hasn't been very friendly for a while.
