Hi all, I'm sharing a unit with a new flatmate, I have ditched my Dlink that i had for a while. So I have a new modem and a new flatmate... Anyway, the problem is now I'm trying to restrict access to P2P/BT and the like for him, so it doesnt chew up all my quota...although I may have to use psp once in a while. So I have a Billion 7300GA, I tried to check what IP he's connected with, but when I view the "Wireless Association Table" page since he's connecting via WI-FI, I can see my own laptop on wireless, and I can see "another" pc connected via WIFI, but in the IP address field says "Unknown" while the MAC address field have an actual MAC address (as far as I know it should be valid?), I can see my laptop's IP and MAC addy as usual. But just NOT HIS IP!! So is he hiding his IP deliberately??? How can I block his P2P/BT when I dunno his IP, since I think i can only block P2P/BT using the QoS page in the 7300G, however I would need HIS IP!? So wat gives?? Please let me know if there are ways around his dodgy ways... Thanks a lot guys and girls |

Hey, As for the IP try looking for DHCP association table, lease table or equilivant... the wireless association table generally only shows the MAC address.... another idea is that it may not be resolving the IP if his computer is currently off/asleep.... you would probably want to assign his mac address a static DHCP lease so that the IP does not change. Of course this could be a problem if he uses a static IP himself As for blocking p2p/BT with QoS however... I'm not sure if thats going to be very effective, most p2p programs are designed to get around restrictive firewalls ... the only thing i can think off the top of my head is to try setting the modems dns to opendns.com 's service and blocking specific torrent domains and stuff that way... *shrug* good luck |

Cool, I will try to assign a static ip for the MAC address, but I will wait for a little bit until his IP actually shows...but it'll be easier if I can block p2p and stuff using his MAC addy tho, so I can be sure there is no way he can get around by hiding his IP... Thanks alot anyway |

goto http://192.168.1.254/misc.asp disable UPNP then goto http://192.168.1.254/setvs.asp add the ports you would use for own p2p purposes dont forget to save your config ;) NOTE: your new flat mate can still achieve a maximum speed of 20kb/s via unopened ports. |
