I am trying to sign up for Internode, I really want to get their naked ADSL service but I'm told I cannot go forward with the connection until I give them a phone number.
I have just moved into a new apartment and do not want to connect the phone line, hence my interest in naked ADSL. I plugged in a phone into the phone jack and dialed 1800 801 920, which is supposed to tell me the number, nothing.
How can I find what number is on the line? What is the best number to call on Telstra?
If I call Telstra and get the phone connected, can I then disconnect it and use that nubmer with Internode?
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I'm really at a loss and found this website so very helpful in making the decision of which provider I would like to use. Thanks in advance Katy

Hi Katy, If you don't have dial tone nothing will work.
If you do have dial tone try 12722123.
EDIT: Sniped

Did you get a dial tone on the phone before you dialed?
Once you dialed the number, did you hear any message at all?

12722123 actually only works on Telstra lines and perhaps a few others.. Optus for example it wont work.
1800801920 works on all carriers so is the safe bet, also 1800 calls are more likely to be in dial plans and such correctly :)

Marvin Martian I haven't tried this number yet no, I'm not actually at home, had to get my partner to try it. I'll try it when I get home this afternoon.
Medicash I am just about to give up though i don't know what to do to get a number to connect nakedADSL. I guess I'll have to ring Telstra, connect the phone, and then disconnect it....
Michael Kratz No dial tone, nothing :( But like I said, my partner did it, but he said there was no dial tone at all.
Bits I want it to be a telstra line because Internode tells me I can only connect with them if I have a telstra line..
I might write another question on here about which connection I should go for. I find myself quite confused.
You've all been very helpful! :) Thanks Katy

You got the first bit right & thats $59 to connect it + $20pm for their cheap phone plan charged pro rata until they connect you up with the net, but you don't do anything after you apply for the Naked ADSL2+, the ISP gets the phone side of things shut down, all you have to do is pay them for it after that and they pass the line rental on to Tel$tra you have nothing more to do with them.
You need an actual active account number not just a phone number to apply !!!

In that case you can't use the 'dial 1800' method to get Naked ADSL2+, because your line is 'inactive'.
Unfortunately, because your line is completely inactive, the only ways you can get Naked ADSL2+ in your apartment, are:
- If you're willing to pay for a cabler to connect your line from the buildings telephone distribution point (MDF) to your apartment. If you're willing to do that, contact Internode sales and they can push your Naked order through. Once that's complete you'll need to get the cabler in, or;
- As you've already worked out, order a Telstra phone service then "convert" it to Naked.
The reason behind all this difficulty is due to the fact that when Telstra come to install your Naked line, they will only connect it line up to the "MDF", then they leave it to you to organise the connection to your actual apartment.

This is so rubbish.. i'm in the process of figuring out what to do in this situation – just waiting on the email from Node (do they usually take 24 hours to arrive?)
Such a frustrating situation!

I'm in the same situation – no dial tone, though the line provides power to the phone's lights.. so something is obviously connected.
Would it be cheaper to get a cabler out (quick job?) or to activate the line then switch to NDSL?

If you're already cabled from a socket in your place to the MDF, you should be able to get the work done inside the MDF very easily. 5 to 10 minute job. If you know any sparkies or cablers offer them a carton of beer as payment.

Given that the phone lights up when plugged into the socket, can I assume this is already done?
If that's the case, is it going to be the $149 charge or is there still a line activation required via telstra?
If you know any sparkies or cablers...
:D
