When will we see this size increase??? I mean 50MB pft
Can you take the 30MB web space you guys "generously" offer and put it towards my e-mail and then add another GB?
I like using my iiNet e-mail and I like to keep it on the server so it can be roaming with me but 50MB just don't cut it.
Is anyone else sick of it or is it just me???

Can't see any reason why iiNet would need to raise the limit...
Just forward your iiNet email to a gmail account and have all the storage you need.

50MB is too small? Pfft try being on Bigpond... over 10MB and they BLOCK your emails... iiNet don't they just warn you.
If it's a problem, why not leave an email client on?
For email 50MB is plenty big enough.

Why do people think email is for sending huge files. It was only ever designed for text.
It really isn't the best thing for sending files. You can have millions of emails. You just can't have loads of huge files.

Ah, shit. Here comes the flame war where everybody argues that peoples need to be uneducated and lazy outweighs the need to use a system within the limits with which it was designed.
God forbid I miss out on those stupid "funny" one-slide powerpoint presentations people keep emailing me (that I keep trashing).

I do like the idea of having the 30mb webspace and 50mb mailbox and making them a shared 80mb for however you want to use them, but I don't believe adding another gb to everyones mailbox is feasable.
From my own time working at ISPs, maybe 5% of people either constantly exceed, or come close to exceeding, their mailbox size.
From iiNets perspective, lets argue that they have 1,000,000 members. i've had a quick look at the annual report and can't confirm the exact number of members, but that's a good square figure
So you're asking for iiNet to in theory add 1,000,000gb (or 976 terrabytes) of hard drive space to their network. In retail terms, a 1tb hard drive is around $180. You're basically asking iiNet to spend $175,680 on space that maybe 5% of users would be taking advantage of.
Through sheer laziness, I often exceed my mailbox size (I don't have anything important going to my @ozemail.com.au address and only check it monthly or so just to clear out the spam, print out my iiInvoice, and forward on the emails that people without my main email address don't have etc), but I don't believe spending the additional money to help the few users who exceed their mailbox is a wise investment.
As above, I'd say the best way to do it would be to have the 50mb mailbox and 30mb webspace allocated to each user in an 80mb block for them to do with what they will.

Thanks for the response Greg.
I understand I have other options in regards to e-mail but I couldn't be bothered stuffing around with third parties.
I feel that things should be kept simple and 'in-house'. I like using my iiNet e-mail and like to keep everything stored online so it can travel with me.
Matter of opinion I guess. Thanks for the responses.

At the worse case scenario if you are after some more space you could technically just use your other iinet mailboxes that most people don't end up using. :)

Agreed, iiNet should start charging people if they go over the 50mb limit, let's say 5c per Mb. This way you pay for what you get.

Right...You must be another planet if you believe that we in Australia "get what we pay for". For the 69.95 a month I pay I should be getting a lot more than what I get, so should everyone else in Australia, regardless of ISP.
Don't sell yourself short.

I am sure this would be some SAN scenario and would be closer to many thousands of dollars per TB (we were quoted $3k for a 300GB fibre channel drive this week)
so when you talk about upping the ante for mailbox storage, you need to be talking real throbbing dollars .... and for what return ?

Thanks for reminding me about the 10 mailbox accounts I have. Couldn't I put the space for the 9 remaining mailboxes towards the 1 that I actually use?

Customer satisfaction.
Keep your customers using the iiNet brand, it creates loyalty and these days you need to generate loyalty anyway you can.

They are an ISP – You know what that stands for? Internet Service Provider.
They provide internet – Anything more than that is an added bonus.

I'm sure you could archive mail to those other mailboxes.

Interesting sums, but pointless. There is no reserved space per user.
Also, on top of the drives cost you have controller/server architecture, backups, power requirements, physical space. All adds up to "a lot".

I don't want the kind of satisfaction you want for the dollar amount it would cost to provide it ..... and neither would you.
You would be back in here stating "I can't believe the price of the plans"
Put the whole package you get with iiNet (i mean the whole package not just download quotas, email storage space etc) and you are getting a good deal.
If you weren't you would simply change ISP's

You must either get a LOT of email or not download the content of large messages and delete them. I think my local inbox is just pushing 30mb with 8 years worth of emails.
Maybe archive some of those non-vital "Fw:fw:fw:fw:fw:fw:Fw:re:fw:fw:fwRE:CHECK DIS OUT!!!!!!!" emails or try gmail as others have suggested?

The best way of doing it is to sort the emails by size then archive the largest or simply delete them.
Generally you can eliminate 80% of a mailbox size by deleting the numerous amounts of hilarious large video fodder people send around lol rofl all those other things I want to kill myself over when I receive them.
And all those hoax virus warnings you guys seem to think it important to spam to me. Get a clue people.

One point. You would never dream of providing a mass market service on this sort of facility. We don't just link a bunch of IDE's together. We need something that can scale, can handle a large number of connections, and can be backed up and restored reliably.

lol Michael thats for sure
just get them all to gmail so you dont have to deal with it
plus the way hdd's are droping SATA they are better keeping your own emails instead of leaving them on the server all the time
