Guys,

I've been with Spin ADSL1 for about a year and a half now. My only gripe with them had been about provisioning – which took ages. And other than the frequent modem disconnects and once or twice international speed issue aside all has been good.

I need to move apartments (bugger increasing rentals) very soon and I'm thinking about switching to ADSL2. Not yet sure if I'm going to stay with Spin or go elsewhere.

My question to you is how good is Spin ADSL2? More specifically... how reliable is the service in terms of availability, stable connection, and consistently good speeds. (My new place will be 1.8Km from a Spin enabled exchange in Sydney Metro area – adsl2exchange estimated cable length).

Will much appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.

It has been reliable for me lately, even though when I first joined them I was quite shocked by the poor connection...

I just joined comcen adsl2 from iinet, fantastic support, slightly slow provisioning (mostly iinets fault), nil dropouts since joined 25 days ago, speeds almost on par with iinet (at almost 4km)

Great value for money overall, I highly recommend

^^ similar experience, staff here are helpful and very nice to talk to on the phone, iinet were a pain when removing line codes, but the transition was smooth from then on.

speeds are somewhat slower, some http stuff can get 1meg+ (19meg sync) but torrents (on and off pipe) never hit over 350k. not sure of the issue there but a few people have been talking about it recently as you would of read.

Overall great value for money and the main things work fine, so it gets a votw

Good reliable connection but the speeds seem very up and down.My wife is starting to complain about not being able to download her torrents very quickly between 9am-12pm and its not like i need spin to give my wife extra reasons to hassle me.

If they can get some more bandwidth for their busiest network times i will have no problems recommending them.

long term iinet to spin.

great value for money... $79 for 150GB wowow????

some dodgyness with reaching your max speeds as indicated by the sync speed.

dont regret churning from iinet but spin isn't perfect.

I am not in that high flying market.

But after a couple of weeks of Comcen ADSL2+, only a 5gb/10gb rate, I have to say the service is reasonable.

A bit marred by the number of times I can't access the net with Firefox 3.

Also the download rates fluctuate enormously. Mostly, I can just about download a movie faster than it is played, but there are times when I get delays.

It is borderline for reliability. I suspect the problem lies with the carrier rather than Comcen.

Thanks very much for your opinions, guys.

From your comments (and of course from other threads), it looks like Spin/ADSL2 is not as reliable as Spin/ADSL1 as far as speeds are concerned.

Speeds are fine for me in Newcastle, the problems some were having seem to have been fixed now as it appears the order for more bandwidth from Optus has finally been filled.

I suggest monitoring the forums for a week or more before you come to that conclusion about poor speeds as it appears all the people that were complaining have now stopped posting, happy people tend to post less than unhappy ones so you won't see what is really happening by reading complaint threads :P

Back when i was on there ADSL2+ (Wish i could still get it) it was terrific.

Never had the best connection speed (Orignal house was about 3.8mbit second place 6.5) but that was due to line length than anything else.

Was able to max out torrents quite easily if they were well seeded.

When i transfered to ADSL1 they were even nice enough to allow me to stay in contract so i didn't have to pay cancellation fees :D

2 thumbs up from me!

Ditto. Great service, great support and its got proper technical support people who know what they are talking about :P Not Telstra Drones reading from a piece of paper in India.

They really truley want you to have an awesome internet connection and they'll help you get the fastest/most reliable service.

Me neither.

On the same plan, service is better then anyone else i have used.

Hmm i see the same things i do think that a lot of it would be the servers we access.
Maybe us old dinosaurs still don't have the knack of finetuning our syncs on our modems the right way.

I've only just connected to Spin ( like a week ago) on the, ADSL2+ The BIG 150 Shaped plan. So far the connection is terrible, constant drop outs during browsing and chatting on MSN and Skype. First impressions so far is Rubbish. I'll be on the phone to them tomorrow to try and sort things out. Connection just dropped out again right now while typing this. 9:57pm.

My impression is based upon previous ISP's and connection quality off the bat.. (Subject to change)

Good idea. maybe find out what the problem is first before posting. if it's something on your end, I'm sure you'll let us know.
