I was VERY interested to see that iinet is contemplating giving its customers quota free downloads when viewing the new ABC iView programs.

I ask: Will aanet be a leader, or a follower, here?

Well, to be a leader they'd have to be the first to categorically say "No!". If they say "Yes" then they are, by definition, a follower...

Err.... I would have thought to be a REAL leader they would have to be the first to say yes ! (at time of posting I couldn't see that iinet have said yes, either)

Can iinet or aanet please correct me here?

iiNet have confirmed that the ABC's iView will be in their 'freezone':

Would like it if aaNet did too, however, that's not what aaNet are all about unfortunately.

agreed... aanet is always advertised as cheap broadband, and free quota is just not their style

and this thing is also not free to aaNet.
Unless aaNet can come to some localised hosting arrangement with the ABC, it will still cost aanet the same. And therefore still impact on what we pay..

I already get the stuff broadcast to me at something like 10 times the bitrate (= higher quality) and can already copy programs to avoid clashes in timetables. So, for the occasional use I might make of it, I'd be happy to pay. At the $4/GB excess rate that would be $1 for an hour's program.

There's a detailed "why not" here for those that are interested...
