Buy an ADSL2+ modem. You will probably double your existing speed. Your line speed is 2.68 Mbps (2683 kbps). that is a very good spec using an ADSL1 complient modem |

so can anyone else help me You're hoping for a lot from a D-Link 302G. Try it without the router and try doing an isolation test. • http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=Isolation_test With this modem you probably should also try a factory reset (after which you'll have to put your username and password back into it). To do a factory reset you have to take a toothpick to the factory reset hole on the back of the modem. While it's switched on, use the toothpick to repeatedly press the button inside the hole. Keep repeatedly pressing it until the lights on the modem go out and start flashing again. Then stop and wait for it to restart. After it's done you'll have to go to http://10.1.1.1 (if using Ethernet) or http://10.1.1.2 (if using USB) and put your username and password back in. |

how do i know if i get a dropout? Ideally you'd be using the connection, though obviously if you have to move the modem and don't have a laptop this can be difficult. You can watch the lights on the modem or if you're prepared to leave it in isolation overnight, just make a note of the time you set it up and the time you plug stuff back in in the morning – Optus can look through the connection logs and let you know if it stayed connected or not. If you've gone to the effort of getting it into full isolation with no phones and leaving it overnight and Optus can still see droppouts, then they'll have the data they need to log a fault for you. If there are no droppouts, then the problem is at your end so while that might be frustrating, at least you'll know and can set about narrowing down the cause. |

Can i just plug my modem into the phone socket with no computer..leave it overnight..then call Optus in the morning Sure can... just make a note of the times when you do it. Also it's a good idea to restart the modem (by turning it off for a few seconds and back on again) when you have it isolated, so it starts a fresh connection and reduces the chance of it introducing its own issues. ooh..yea what about the router is there any tests for the router? Yep... leave it unplugged. :) If the modem stays connected all night when it's by itself, this is already your router's first test. You can take it from there depending on the outcome. |
