Well, my churn is happening in less than a week... But before my connection drops out, I've been trying to find the Exetel modem settings. I *have* found some settings – on both the Exetel site (for specific modems) and here on Whirlpool... Trouble is, they seem to contradict each other.

I'm looking for info like:

  • Encapsulation (VC Mux, or, LLC/Snap?)
  • Protocol (PPPoE or PPPoA?) I've seen both given! And if it doesn't matter, is one better than the other!?)
  • Modulation (T1.413, G.Lite, G.DMT, or Multimode?)
  • VPI: (8?)
  • VCI: (35?)
  • Obtain DNS Automatically (I assume "YES"?)
  • IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default Gateway
  • NAT (Enable I assume?)
  • Primary DNS (220.233.0.4 ?)
  • Secondary DNS (220.233.0.3 ?)

My modem is not one of the ones listed on the Exetel site. (Not that it matters much, as different modems are listed with different settings.) I wish they'd just list all the setup details on one page like most ISPs do. (Or do they – and I missed it?)

You mean something like this...

The Username and password required for both your ADSL modem and your Members facilities is:

ADSL / members facilities Username:

ADSL / members facilities Password: 0298765432EX

Note: You must use CAPITALS for the last two letters of your password

If the ADSL User name and password are not entered EXACTLY as shown, your ADSL connection will not work.

2. Information on Configuring Your ADSL Modem

==============================================

Normally, with most modems, all the factory default settings will be correct for the Exetel service and you will only need to enter your ADSL username and password.

You should only check these if your modem has a WAN LNK or ADSL SYNC but still wont connect.

Your PC's DNS Settings (found in network connections/LANSettings/Advanced/TCP/IP):

Primary DNS: 220.233.0.4

Secondary DNS: 220.233.0.3

Advanced Modem Settings:

ADSL Modulation: G.DMT (not G.DMT lite)

NAT: Enabled – use Dynamic NAPT for shared connections

Bridge Mode: Disabled

PPP Authentication: CHAP

ATM VPI: 8

ATM VCI: 35

ATM Category: UBR

Encapsulation: PPPoA LLC or PPPoE LLC

ForSakenHero... Yeah, already found that one – thanks, but it only lists username, password & DNS info though.

Hm... Wonder why I didn't get that...

Heh – I remember one ISP sent me the info AFTER disconnecting my previous ISP – to my new email address with them! (Real handy that... You had to already know the settings to logon to get your email that contained the settings!?)

Thanks...

Next problem to go a-searching for on their forum... How to setup FTP space.

Oh – and while I have willing readers – instead of starting another thread... Can you change your username/password online? I mean, the original one is not very secure. (Anyone that knows your phone number and street...)

How to setup FTP space.

It tells you in the Member Facilities. It is very easy to do.

You can change them for your user facilities, but not your ADSL.

Nobody but you can use your ADSL... unless they happen to be in your house.
