Hey guys...

ive noticed another fellow whirlpooler talkin about a special offer.. however didint want to hijack his thread...

So ill make a new one as it is also a little diff

ive just recently made a new phone line to my house (reconnected it as ive moved houses)

and they have offered me a special deal (well thats what they tell me)

its 89.95 a month for internet
i think its 29.95 for telephone

(MUST HAVE PHONE AND INTERNET)
im lookin at the cable option as i can get it there.. however they are saying that you can get it on adsl aswell

CABLE Extreme 17mbps/256kbits Upload
25gb (download + upload counted)
first 9 months half price of internet and telephone

BUT after the 25gb has been downloaded/uploaded

the speed is then capped to
8mbps/128kbits ... and can download as much as you want without paying an extra cent

only prob is 24 month contract... but being not a bad deal.. id prob wouldnt wanna get off the contract..

What do you guys.. think.. i have looked on the bigpond website and i cant find anything about it

anything i should ask about????
any catches... what do you guys think

8mbps.. download is still not a bad download rate right?
comments are very appreciated
thanx in advance
Charlie

The sales people will tell you the sky will fall in for you to sign up to them.

You won't find anything on the Bigpond website as you'll probably find the "special" doesn't exist and the salesperson was spouting a load of bs. When you get capped the sppeds won't be 8000/128 kbps, more likely 64/64 kpbs. Look at http://promo.bigpond.com/bbo/ for the legit offer (the 3288 offer). If you still got 8000/128 after capping it'd be a leechers dream.

I'd love to be proved wrong, but i don't think it'll happen...

If what you say is true, there is no point calling Bigpond and admitting such a glitch in their system.

The only other news I have for you is, run free; in this case, download like an animal, LOL

There is nothing "special" about the deal. It is the normal ½ price offer for new customers. The only difference is the claim of the speed being slowed to 8000 after 25GB which, as others have said, is not correct

Dream on, the real cap is 64k. No ISP in australia offers an 8mbit cap.

That doesn't sound right, 8mbit is about 760kb/sec which as a cap if it's an unlimited cap you could download non stop about 65gb per day. I think some ones telling you crap.

However the 64k cap is about 8kb/sec.

OK, here's the drum. 8Mbps is the standard cable speed. 17 or 30 Mbps is the Extreme speed depending on where you live.

I don't care what any idiot in the sales area says, the simple fact of the matter is that BigPond's shaped speed is 64kbps.

There are 3 options:

  1. There is a misunderstanding
  2. They are idiots
  3. They are deliberately lying

I'm torn 50/50 between 1 and 2.

The only way I can explain the number 8 is that 64kbps (bits) is equivalent to 8kB/sec (bytes).

im trying to get them to email it to me.. to have proof

This, I would like to see. I doubt it will happen.

We got offered a "special" deal.
$60 a month for line rental and 8Mbps cable with 12GB.
Good enough for me, although I would prefer a higher download limit, since they count uploads
:(

Are you sure that the sales people you spoke to are from Telstra?
Most of, if not all, sales people who "approach" you are not actually Telstra employee's...... You'll find that the actual Telstra CSRs will tell you the truth about the products available

Teach the Bigpond clowns a lesson and opt for another ISP. If they cant offer a competitive ADSL service without bundling your house and two pages of 'ifs' 'or' 'buts', they dont deserve you.
