A Naked DSL relocation is $150.00 I still can't get over this. You may as well change to another ISP with the cost and down time. |

Which is something I am thinking about doing. Or you can disconnect with Adam – the reconnect as a new customer and get the special they are giving new customers. |

Pretty sure they only meant that ADSL2+ will go, ADSL services will remain as normal until cutover? |

Pretty sure they only meant that ADSL2+ will go, ADSL services will remain as normal until cutover? Incorrect, as that would require you to be on a DSLAM to continue an ADSL service. Basically, when you do a disconnect/reconnect, they need to disconnect you so they can put in an order to change you onto a ULL Based Service to get you on a Naked ADSL2+ Product (ala, no dial tone) |

Hey guys thanks for your responses. "hey Toby here are those answers to the questions that you asked As I am an existing adsl 2+ customer will there be any downtime? Am I eligible for the special offer (setup, modem and adam talk voip bundle)? on Can adam substitute a different modem/router (not wireless?) possibly 8 port? Is caller id still available? Will my number still not be published in the white pages? Can I still use my existing phone? Kind Regards, Adam Internet Helpdesk |

I will be taking my business else ware. Also Adam may require a spell checker. Dont mean to have a personal attack at you, but you may want to consider one yourself ;) Also I dont meant to be cruel again to you but at least whoever it is that wrote that to you has the balls to tell you the conditions of upgrading to NDSL. Not lead you on into thinking that some other situation may apply. Crudely written I agree, but at least its honest. Incorrect, as that would require you to be on a DSLAM to continue an ADSL service. Might be true if you've been migrated however I've heard on these forums of some people only losing ADSL on the appointment date? Will check with people on the helpdesk. |

Connecting to NakedDSL is a VERY different process than connecting to standard ADSL and because of this can take longer. Adam, for a voip service will supply you with a netcomm modem AND seperate netcomm voip gateway AND seperate netcomm handset. Don't bother with any of their hardware, instead look at something like a billion 'v' series modem (7402vgp, 7404vgp, etc,). The V stands for voice and is an all-in-one unit (modem and voip hardware in one), if you don't want wireless look for a billion modem without the 'G' as the g stands for wireless. Asking for an 8 port modem is a fair stretch, most modems will have 4-5 ports max. You can pickup an 8 port switch at MSY for 25 bucks so for the sake of keeping things simple, and your options open, I wouldn't put this too high on the requirements list. You can use your existing phones no problem, nearly all voip hardware will come with what's known as an FXS port, these are the ports where you plug your everyday standard run of the mill phone handsets into. Usually it works out best if you have a wireless phone with multiple handsets, this way you can place the phone base station near your modem, then put the wireless handsets throughout your house. Your phone number WILL CHANGE, when you sign up to Adam Talk you are given a choice of new numbers to pick from. |

Thanks Nic55 Does voip have caller id enabled so that we can screen calls? I was mainly upset that "new" customers get bonus/rewards while existing customers changing over don't get the reward . If I was to change to naked dsl I would be required to buy additional hardware where as new customers would get this hardware for "free". Thanks for the info Nic55 especially about using my existing handsets. Cheers |

I was mainly upset that "new" customers get bonus/rewards while existing customers changing over don't get the reward Unfortunately you'll find that's the case in many different fields of service/products – it's to get the new customer in. Look at mobile phone offers ('free Xbox if you sign up to a new contract', they don't go offering Xbox's to every existing customer), gas/electricity ('$100 credit if you change your service to us'), hairdressers ('1/2 price on your first visit to all new customers') etc, etc. |

Hi There, Without a username of an account we can't say for sure. But if you have an ADSL1 connection that happens to be connected to Adam equipment in the exchange then you will lose the service shortly after you complete the upgrade on members area. However if you are physically connected to the ADSL1 network then you should keep your service until the appointment date. If you were to send in some details of your account we will be able to investigate further, or you can call our helpdesk on 8423 4000. Kind Regards, Adam Internet Helpdesk Thaats the response I got. I was right. :) |

Hi, Just a couple of quick questions for people who are on a long tail from the exchange. Im looking again at internet (used to be with internode until their service and attitude really pissed me off). Ive recently had my line "fixed" (removed 4 common grounds from my line in the street, a 10 minute fix which took many calls to telstra and three technicians to in the end be fixed by a pair of wire cutters by the last tech), but the line is still slightly an issue (60db) but as far as I understand Naked DSL works better on the longer lines. On a line 7.3km from exchange, what has been your experiences with this? Will a DSL problem caused by the line cause a drop of phone call via voip (im one of those people who rarely need a phone other than for atm dialup and if it means I can get dsl and lose telstra without loosing some type of phone service then that sounds good to me). How have you found adams voip service, and backup for faults. How about voice quality using netcomm hardware (I previously found netcomm nb5 was about the only modem which worked well with long line on adsl2+ even though its not the best, in any case though will be getting new hardware) Best Regards |

IMHO Adam should essentially be treating him as a new customer. But they're not a new customer, they're a continuing customer. Just cause you're not under contract doesn't make you new. |

Good service, no problems. There are plenty of reasons to stay, not to mention the inconvenience of downtime. |

not to mention the inconvenience of downtime. But wouldn't he experience the same downtime if he changed to another ISP for Naked DSL? |

Hi, just a question more in line of darrenadelaides post. I live about the same distance from my exchange (7ish kms) which makes adsl2+ quite impossible and as such am supposedly waiting on ports for the area to open up in adsl1. However from what i have been reading around here, the lack of a dial tone on naked adsl2+ might be able to extend the reach of such services to a place my distance from the exchange, although I also hear this is only a hope. However, a family member of mine runs a buisness from home and requires the home phone number to stay the same. Since there seems to be no phone number transfer system (ie keep your old number), what is the possibility of acquiring a second phone line, only to be disconnected and used for naked adsl2+, whilst keeping the old phone line as is? I understand that i would not be saving money initially, but would (hypothetically) the services provided by naked adsl2+ under this second line be significantly better then simple adsl1 on the original, taking in regards the distance? Edit: wording |

Hm, You'd probably be able to do that but your likely to need a new lead in at $299 its not gonna be cheap, but still an open possibility. ADSL2+ starts off at 1500k. Less than this and there's something wrong. Telstra wont look at you because your in "acceptable range" On Adam ADSL2+ extended limits, Telstra still wont look at you but its possible you wont even get the 1500k and will get a lot less. Personally... I'd be going the Adam Home ADSL but its entirely up to you.. Looking at the graph on Internode.. it doesn't even look like ADSL2+ is possible after about 6.5k's distance but im sure Adam have some way to do it. |
