Been many good years with aapt 8000k Broadband Bundle, but now going with ADSL2 with telstra since no other company has it in my area. Had good time on AAPT internet hardly no problems at all.

Think AAPT needs larger adsl plans, I know its prob been brought up hundreds of times but thats one reasons leaveing See yas.

I too am gone! Have moved across to Exetel ADSL2.
AAPT has been 'triffic to us for phone over many years and ADSL of recent times.
Technically they're very stable, but corporately they're a worry.

All the best to y'all.

Thanks to the reps and also 'the goat' – it's been fun.

I agree, I spent 10 months with AAPT and left due to their prices going up.

On the technical side, AAPT was generally very stable and I only had problems with the e-mail password rejections awhile back.

Desertdust, Glad to hear you are happy with Exetel as my churn to them should hopefully go thru tomorrow.

I ended up going back to Telstra's budget ($19.95) & Exetel's TELM ($65) 8192kbps Down/384 kbps Up plan. So this combo will still end up $10 cheaper than what AAPT were going to charge me (1500 plan & phone)

The added bonuses are approx. 5 times the speed (only 600m away from my exchange) & a possible 3.5 times more download limit.

Can't wait !!!!!!!!

Update !!!

Churn went thru today as promised....very painless....just entered my new details from Exetel into my modem and away I went.

So far speeds are very good. I will never go back to 1500 again. I can only imagine what ADSL2 must be like (I wish) but for now, this is fantastic.

Thanks to all who have helped & answered questions in the past & I wish all well. I'll be back occasionally to see if things have improved (cough, cough)

Bye for now

I'm churning as well. I've been with AAPT for about 2 years (on the grandfathered plan) and the experience has been generally exellent. I thank AAPT for allowing me to pay by derect deposit and stay on the old plan. The new hyperbaric(?) saga wasn't that much of a problem but just one simple whim to a rep solved it. Now the looming price rise and now available SST is too much of temptation I can bear..

I can't wait to see what permutations AAPT comes up with for my request. Probably cancel the phone, transfer tha net and move all three mobile phone accounts to Telstra while issuing a final bill and disconnecting the electricity. :D

You dont think it is a good thing that visitors to the site or people perhaps researching AAPT and others as a possible service providor can see that people are leaving along with the many and varied reasons why? Not that AAPT people have to many different reasons...mostly the same ones, service, price and uncompetitiveness.

I know if I was looking around I'd be happy to see that lots of peeps were leaving somewhere....it would make me look at that ISP again and rethink them. It can give you a heads up on where that ISP seems to be heading.

Woohoo Farewell AAPT – Good Riddance

I finally took the plunge and have moved to TPG on ADSL2+. For $10 a month more (before the AAPT price rise) i'm getting 50GB a month, 2-3 times the speed and customer support that actually answers the phone in a reasonable time. They actually have an email service that works properly and sends emails nearly instantly unlike the day or so delay from AAPT's webmail.

All I can say to AAPT is thanks for nothing, increasing prices, degrading service, removing my line rental discount, the list goes on.

I've done it, churn went through today.

Goodbye to AAPT and the posters here on AAPT – Whirlpool. It's been a bumpy ride for a lot AAPT users however, overall I was happy with the service, just time to move on.

I didn't wait for the letter – gone churned to Internode.

The funny thing is that I have both accounts provisioned at the same time (can log into AAPT and Internode).

I called AAPT and advised them that my churn has gone through and will check again with them tomorrow that my BB account won't be billed (after my next account, still have to pay for connection for this month).

I jumped ship from AAPT 6 months ago, I went to EXETEL, couldnt be happier, 28 gig peak and 48 gig off peak for $65 a month, whilst with AAPT the hyperbaric monster was unleashed, I will say no more, AAPT was reasonable value for money a while ,back but now they dont seem to want to offer their customers any reason to stay, strange way to improve the bottom line eh.

Hi All, I was with AAPT for quite a few years. I can only recall one major outage during this time. I was on the 512 12Gig package and wanting to upgrade. When the price increase was announced I compared the available packages and found a better suitable package with Internode. I churned on 31/7 to a 1500 15Gig package and they have changed this package in August to 20Gig with no extra charge...:-) I have a few Ubuntu (Linux) PC's and they have an unmetered mirror so updates are not counted. I have been very happy with Internode, only one call to get the initial connection going.
So Goodbye to all in the AAPT forum.

Having received my letter regarding price increases I rang AAPT to see if I could move to their ADSL2 plan (livenet 10) which is the same price as what I will be paying for my 512k plan next month. The rep said that this was possible as the rim has adls2 enabled. However there will be a $75 charge for upgrading the plan. I said to the rep that the leter I received stated the change fee as $25 only. Rep said that it had changed since then to $75. Another slap in the face from Aapt.
Next they will be charging you for calls to their support line.

3.3.1998 i joined AAPT mobile, then later on... home landline, then dial up, then
broadband.... today i churn reluctantly to the next best thing that suits me:- NetSpace

AAPT have been good over the long run, and i think most long time customers "care" about AAPT for being a real alternative from Optus and Telsta back in the early days.

Today i churn to get better value for my money.
I have given up AAPT AnytimePlus home phone local /long & international( old product with good features no longer available some better than currently on offer )
Given up 256/64 adsl 1 ( free modem and not contract ! ) with NO history of issues in the 14 months i have had it.
When i got onto this broadband it was a dream, plug and away we went.

What sparked my decision to change was a call from them telling me the monthly fee going 29.00 to 34.95.

They said ADSL costs more to provide and ADSL2 is cheaper.

I think it was big mistake to only offer 500MB more to stay on 29.95 and pay 75 to go to ADSL2. To me it says 500MB costs $5 !!!!! most plans vary by 3 to 5 GIG for just $10 !!!!

So i took NetSpace ADSL1 512/128 5Gig plus phone EVERYDAY bundle. I think it will be only a bit cheaper than AAPT but i will have 4 GIG more and DOWN & UPLOADS are not both counted !

Also wont be shaped after 5 days of the month so i will most likely now notice speeds 9x faster all month YAY. ( i.e. 512 every day due to 5 GIG allowance and not 500MB )

I had been paying 1.50 and 2 ( 3.50 ) for posted paper bill and using manual payment not DDebit due to me being comfortable to do this. But now must have DDebit so i wll save the $3.50.

I sincerely hope AAPT put a better deal in place in 6 mths time when my contract finishes and i will be happy to run back to them with "open arms"

But ADSL1 DOES cost more than DSL2, as ADSL1 is a Telstra wholesale product where as DSL2 uses a ULL and their own DSLAM.

This is the reason I chose AAPT nearly 4 years ago. I was sick and tired of Telstra and Optus. Plus AAPT's plans were very well priced and service was great.

AAPT charges me $49 for a 512k 12GB connection. Thinking of churning to Internode on their 1500 10GB plan which is also $49. I understand that they will charge a churning fee of $39 unless I sign up for 1 year. My main concern is whether my present modem as supplied by AAPT (Speedtouch 585v6) can be used with Internode's service?

Best to ask that in the Internode forum. Quite a few have churned to there and no doubt someone will have that modem. I'm fairly sure though that you just need to change your details in the modem to the Internode details once you are notified by Internode that the churn has gone through. Good luck with whoever you go to if you do indeed move.

I am also churning like many before me.

I received the price hike after work last night and whilst I have liked the service, connection and original contract I believe that AAPT have dropped the ball.

I have been with AAPT for over 2 years.

I'd like to churn to Internode but might end up having to go to TPG for ADSL2.

AAPT "Whatever you want". I would want an increase from 15GB to 20GB for the price increase. Especially when your phasing in uploads.

I think it is poor business planning and obviously they will lose a lot of custom.

And change that song!

I did find AAPT very stable, not a hassle in the world. Call Centre was ok, tech support good.

I was on their old 512-128 plan. I know, shoot me for waiting so long to upgrade to ADSL2+. But i did move on and didnt stay with them simply due to the prices they offer for ADSL2+.

Im moving to Exetel and hopefully thats ok for me.

I thought broadband would be getting cheaper also, Interesting to see if all of us are just adsl customers, I only received my notice last week, and mention of line rental increases. The customer service rep told me that everyone hardly used their allowance and it was costing them money and thats why the prices were rising. I can't get adsl2+ with aapt at my exchange, only telstra can offer that so we are penalised by only having access to adsl2+ which is cheaper. Is it the port that costs the money or the data? also this is a rise of 25% on the $40 512 12 g plan. That is a ludicris price rise and will be churning, btw everyone should read the SFOA on the site, it says they do whatever. I think that the SFOA for most providers will be the same. Pity !

I've just rapid transfered to Netspace to save $20 a month on a similar plan to the 1500 15GB plan but with free uploads and no long term contract (which AAPT now impose)

Yep same here. The once attractive AAPT (no contract, no set up fee, good value) has turned into a 24mth contract, poorer value, upload counting Gig so we're packing up and switching to Exetel. Much cheaper and shorter contract..

A question for others doing the same...We've ordered the full Exetel service with ADSL2 and awaiting connection. Do we need to contact AAPT as well? We're off contract and are on ADSL1 but not sure if they require some sort of notice of our intent to disconnect?

I'm another to leave due to the recent price rise. In my regional area only Telstra supplies ADSL2+, but even then with the current deals on Bigpond signup, over 24 months I will get 25Gb @ ADSL2+ speed (inc $20 line rental) for the same price as staying with AAPT for 15Gb @ 1.5k (inc $35 line rental). AAPT really need to rethink their pricing to remain competitive.

I've signed up to a Liberty plan which has no excess charges as it is shaped after the 25Gb – I'm not a huge user at the moment, but my kids are starting to download more and more ... As with all things Telstra they are mean buggers, not peering, counting down and uploads, but my choice was limited. In the end though it is still better value than staying with AAPT.

I wonder how many users are actually leaving AAPT and what plans they were on. I left iiNet to join AAPT a couple of years back for precisely the reason that I have now left AAPT. iiNet didn't want the ADSL1 users, AAPT offered a fabulous deal for us. Now it is AAPT that is not wanting the ADSL1 users. Meh. I left. I'm better off. I got a warning today that I have only 12gb left on my quota. Yummy. Continuing to download the internet.

I would like to extend my thanks to AAPT for 5 years of good service, unfortunately I could not wait any longer to be moved to the new system so I could get broadband2 as a result I have now churned to IInet, it took 4 working days.

Thankyou to everyone here at the AAPT forums your thoughts and opinions whether they agreed with mine or not were appreciated.

Ciao for now everyone.

Yup, I am outta here too!!
As said above, you were once a great little ISP...I thought anybody who wasnt signed on was an idiot!!
Alas times have changed....

One has to wonder....are their really sooooo many ambivalent(with regards to $$$ and value) AAPT customers in Australia for this business model of theres to work????

Then again, it works for Telstra i suppose!!

Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster. Like most have you, I have been with AAPT for a considerable amount of time but Im disgusted with their price rises (across the board). Now I need some help with jumping ship...

I have noticed some people are going with Telstra's minimal phone line plan (Home Budget) but I noticed that it said you were unable to have another ISP service for broadband on the same line! What can I do about that? Has anyone had any problems using Telstra for the line and using another ISP?

In the same vein, what would be a good provider if Im looking for these things in particular: <$50, 1500Kb, low churning fee, minimal contract terms.

Thank you very much for your time.

P.S It was nice knowing you AAPT, you fickle bastard.

Got the letter notifying changes to my 1500k bundle and promptly churned to Internode ExtremeADSL2+.

Sad to leave AAPT, I've been a member since the first free modem, no contract offer years ago.

There would be hundreds, the only service you can't get is ADSL2 for some reason.

Somebody else might know.

Maybe I don't check the mail enough...

What's the story with price increases? I'm on 512/128 for $35.45 a month (ex GST), for 12 Gig. (slow speed is voluntary shaping for teenagers!!!)

What is the new pricing going to be, or is it purely line rental going up? (Use AAPT for line rental only, Mynetfone for VOIP)

This will give you a bit more information about whats going on.
In a nutshell, I, like a lot of other AAPT customers have received a letter stating that our internet fee will be going up $10 from $39.95 to $49.95.
Some have also had there line rental increase by $5 from $29.95 to $34.95.
This has led to most of us churning away elsewhere, hence this thread..

This is a warning..take heed on the path ahead fellow traveller!

I was on the same great plan same great deal, non contract (maybe this one is what has sent them down a path of business hari kiri with their new "offers" and treatment of tech issues).

I feel so stupid..my number came up in the great AAPT migration lottery (as will yours..long story short, they are shutting that plan down in dribs and drabs cos their new billing system is taking ages to take over. they will call you when your details go to the new system, read on).

I got the pushy ADSL2 migration "don't miss out on a port at your exchange" call, and I ummed and aahed..Better the devil you know I thought.

Bottom line is that I had always got A1 customer service, and had very few issues. What could go wrong..Enter Mr Murphy and his legal logic.

Not a hitch til the switch went through from 12 gig a month 512/128 to 5 gig a month ADSL2 (yesterday apparently). And I couldn't log on.

I am using their dialup right now because they messed it all up and did not inform me of the potential issues of the Dlink DSL 502T with old firmware on ADSL2..I wonder how many of these did they give out to customers as part of their mid 2006 marketing campaign..it was a huge marketing drive I remember.

Had someone told me of the need to upgrade, I would have done it properly or got someone else to do it properly.

To borrow an overused advertising metaphor:

AAPT:

Increase in ADSL plan cost for under half the download (oh, sorry..and upload) quota?
$4.95 per month.

"Non negotiable" (despite over 2 years of loyal custom including being 1 week late in paying once..terrible me) switch hitting fee to go to ADSL2?
$75.

Having their tech support assist you (by omission) in frying your modem, making three more calls afterwards to get further "support", being run through the same setup instructions for 40 mins a shot, telling them you have done all this 20 times already, waiting, wondering, cursing, and not finding out until ringing the first person you spoke to there? (the one who helped you euthenase the old router?) Priceless.

They were great and gave probably the best deal in the country for ages for the run of the mill internet user / minimal home phone, but I wouldn't risk the potential issues of this changeover..the evidence is all over the AAPT forums and if you ignore like I did, you may get burned.

If I can churn out to another non/short contract ADSL2 or Naked connection cheaply, I will..once I get the new router they are sending free of charge (an admission of guilt without an apology, but could be worse), and check BB Choice properly.

The dialup is incredibly reliable though..Haven't been cut off yet, and to be honest, it seems only half as slow as the 512 DSL I was on..or maybe I have gained more patience since this all went "horribly wrong".

That's my story.

I've been with AAPT since 2004 but now bid them farewell, signed up my parents and a friend in that time, and the friend is leaving too.

Moved to iinet for:
1. Landline: $30 rental ($2 for 2hr long distance calls, which I use)
2. ADSL2+ (4G+6G peak/offpeak)
Bundled for $70 pm, so I'm happy.

I may (or may not) be moving house in the next 6 mths, so the $69 cancellation fee within 6 mths period also seems like one of the best deals in this situation.

Looks like I'll start putting in a little bit of research before I get my letter then.

It's a shame, I was more than happy with the deals to be honest, and like most things it wasn't broke, so changing would have never entered my head.

I'll check their line rental out, and probably churn to another ISP.

How do their modem/routers go with other providers ( I got one of their $99 deals), or will I need a new one?

AAPT have just lost another customer. Was happy with their service even recommended them to a few friends but a 25% increase in costs is too much so I'm leaving. Have to do some research first before churning.

I always thought it was good practice to look after existing customers instead of finding new ones. When you lose a customer, that could be for life so how much money are they missing out on from just one person say over just a 10 year period?

Customer service don't seemed too worried though saying there was nothing they could do for me, although I could go onto a plan with less than half my allowed download for more money. Gees, I would have to be nuts not to jump at that offer.

Anyway bye bye appt and future recommendations will be to avoid them unless they once again offer value for money.

When I churned to Internode from AAPT I used my DSL 502T until my Internode one was delivered. It worked fine and all I had to do was enter my Internode details. I only got a new one because ... well because I wanted a new one lol.

To be sure though its probably best to ask in the forum of where you decide to churn to (if you do decide to do this), giving them the details of what modem/routers you have and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

Just got the dreaded letter today. 512/12GB going up to 59 from 49 for standalone. Adam is offering 1500/20GB at 49 ! What's wrong with the bodoh chaps in AAPT? Doesn't look like they want to retain their ADSL customers.

Anyway, I've decided to churn to Internode – 1500/10GB for 49. Does anyone out here have any experience configuring the Speedtouch 585v6 for use with Internode ADSL ? Would appreciate the feedback. TQ.

thanks poobah. didn't realise it could be that simple.

but would it still be possible to connect to 192.168.1.254 if "aapt has disconnected you and internode hasn't re-connected you?"

also, do i have to reset the wpa, psk, tkip or just leave them alone?

thanks again.

Yes, because 192.168.1.254 is the address of the SpeedTouch 585/536, so you should be able to reach that address as long as the connection to the modem is working. :)

If you're doing a fast transfer/churn to your new provider, the down-time should be minimal, too. (A fast transfer can take place if you're moving from an ADSL service to another provider's ADSL service.)

There shouldn't be any need to reset your wireless connection settings, or other settings besides the username/password (and possibly the connection type).

Want to add my name to the Goodbye AAPT thread. Yet another long term customer who has been happy for 4 and a half years and often recommended AAPT to others. As someone usually loathe to change things if they're running smoothly even to save a few bucks, the new pricing has taken me way out of my comfort zone, indeed it is now what my brother calls the mugs package. In the past I've had old plan agreements honoured even as new plans came in which made you feel valued as a loyal customer but this time we've been hit with a considerable increase in price for no gain. I don't think this was the way AAPT, but I'll miss you.

The easiest thing to do is look here – http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/
Type in your phone number –
Hit "OK" –
Hit "Plan Search" –
Then just hit the tabs that are relevant to your speed, budget and download requirements.
Then hit the "Find suitable plans" and check the results.. :)

The capped STD on Homeline Budget is $3 for 20 minutes for calls between 7pm and midnight only. If your not interested in Voip, then in my opinion maybe the extra $5 AAPT is charging isn't such a bad deal if you make alot of STD calls at different times throughout the day..

Well fs69, you need to do the following:

- Locate modem
- Look at modem
- Pick up modem
- Locate writing on modem
- Read writing on modem
- If no writing is found, find the box the modem come in

Does that help? ^_^

P.S – Aren't six question marks a little redundant?

Service has been nothing but good since signing up.. however long ago it was.

As for the future of http://dd32.id.au/aapt/ & http://dd32.id.au/aapt/new/ & Usage Agent:
They should continue to work hopefully, But if they stop working, It'll take me awhile to update them, if i do indeed update them at all.

Yep, another AAPT user here about to make the move, price increases and nothing dangled to keep me here. Have moved home phone to Telstra Home Line Budget and about to make the choice of new ISP between Exetel, Internode or Netspace.

Churn went through yesterday, Exetel got the nod on the TELM plan (8000/384 – 12/48Gb). Very satisfied as I'll be paying only 5 bucks more for far more speed and downloads.

I still have dialup with them but only to retrieve any emails that I have forgotten to changeover the email address on. I'll close this down in about a weeks time.

Do you really have to call them to make sure they don't keep billing past the churn date? Bye bye AAPT.

I have discovered that my exchanged has opened more ADSL2 ports and have decided to leave AAPT. Since being with AAPT since 2001*, I am churning to Exetel. They have unbelievable deals. I am going from the old AAPT 1500 Ultimate (now $59.95 was $49.95) to Exetel's ADSL2 phone bundle.

My new deal is $25.00 for phone line rental and $50.00 for 48 gbytes off peak download (12am to 12pm) and 30 gbytes peak downloads (12pm to 12am). Also note uploads do not count as downloads. Good to note that even though my AAPT plan increased in cost uploads do not count as downloads for me.

Comparing the ADSL plans, for 10 dollars less I will receive fast download 1.5Mb to an expect minimum of 3.5Mb and more than 5 times the download quota. Also, if I hit my download limits with Exetel I can purchase more quota at a cost of $3 per Gbyte or be capped at 64K. It is important to note that the capping only applies to which quota you up (peak or offpeak). You choose whether to buy or cap extra quota and it cost nothing to change it. Default is buying.

Only downside is the phone plan. Though Exetel is cheaper for line rental they have no plans like AAPT and there base calls are more expensive. In saying that, examining my phone bills, it was just worth be getting the 29 plan with AAPT as my phone calls were costing me 25-35 dollars under that plan.

Examining that I believe I will save between 10 to 40 dollars a month by going with Exetel. My current AAPT bill is $110-120 a month and I expect my Exetel bills to be $80-100 per month.

I changed to AAPT because they were cheap and there internet deals were excellent. I have had little to complain with AAPT but I did "raise my voice" here on the forum with that period of poor support service. Generally speaking I was very happy with AAPT product and support but other providers have past you by. I look forward to the next chapter of my telecommunication story.

Thanks for the diatribe Masika ... sounds a bit like an ad for the other company but I too, am abart to jump ship.
AAPT was so good, for so long but the $10+ increase was the last hint for me to 'move to greener fields'.
Perhaps other companies will increase fees but then again, is the price of LCD telly's going up .. or down, in the name of Competition.

I've also left AAPT after they raised my 512K/phone bundle to $85 a month and have now connected to aaNet's ADSL2+ plan (20GB, 24Mbps) which is available in Hobart. This is very fast, at least 15765 Kbps, and reliable.

When I rang AAPT accounts yesterday to check cancellation of our phone service, the operator was very hostile. She was unable to tell me the amount owing ("Wait for your account next month") and insisted the phone service was still listed with AAPT. I asked about cancelling direct debit as I couldn't see how to do it on line. "Of course you can" she said. Oh no, she couldn't. What a lovely moment.

I found out later that aaNet uses AAPT Wholesale to provide their phone service. Technically my phone's with AAPT but AAPT's angry woman couldn't tell the difference. Telstra's free phone enquiry service on 1800 150 436 also said my phone was listed with AAPT. Well, they'd better not charge me for it.

AAPT's website is hopeless. It's also impossible to email them without using one of their pre-filled forms. Good luck if you can find a fax number.
