BigPond brings Liberty to wireless

IN BRIEF | BigPond has brought its Liberty branding to wireless, offering shaped plans with no excess fees on its NextG network.
Following competitors such as Virgin and iPrimus, BigPond has introduced 5GB and 10GB plans that shape to 64Kbps once the limit is used.
The 5GB plan has replaced the existing 3GB plan, with the price staying at $89.95. The existing 10GB plan for $129.95 has simply become a shaped plan.
Naturally, the pricing is still more expensive than its competitors, but Telstra's strategy of keeping its network capacity high seems to be paying off, with Optus struggling to cope with demand amidst widespread media coverage of outages and slowness on its 3G network.
Telstra's existing 1GB plan stays with its huge $250/GB excess usage fees, but it now has a new 200MB plan for low usage customers at $29.95/month. But potential users beware — for every 200MB you go over this limit it will cost $50 more. At Telstra's widely touted fast speeds, that can occur in less than 10 minutes.
