I'm having some problems with skyrim. It's worked fine since last Friday, but yesterday when I went to play, the launcher opened and then crashed with a 'the program has stopped working' box popping up.
I tried just opening it through the TESV file in the steamapps folder and it said that d3dx9_43.dll was missing. I thought that was a bit weird so anyway I downloaded that dll and put it in the system32 and sysWOW64 (I think that's what it's called) folders.
The launcher works again now, but when I press play a black window appears and the disappears again and it won't start. I've tried reinstalling the game a couple of times, updating graphics drivers, trying the sound fix that people are recommending, but I still can't get it to work. Google hasn't been much help so I was wondering whether anyone on here had any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.
Hey you tried disabling anti-virus like software and updated DirectX to the latest?
Would be worth wild scanning your pc for rogueware, like malware etc, something might be changing things on the fly.

My first thought was malware deleting files or something, because I also found that drivers for my disc drive had been deleted as well last week. Malwarebytes and avast found nothing though.
I'll try updating directX now
I got it working again :) I just downloaded the direct x runtime update from here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
I don't understand why Skyrim only uses directX 9 though? Why doesn't it make use of directX 11?

It might in future (Crysis 2 style).
