A friend of mine runs a gaming community website in the USA, and he has over 300 clan members who donate regularly. But atm, he only has Paypal and a lot of people say they cannot donate because they do not have Paypal and do not want Paypal.

I told him about Whirlpool and that many people who contribute here may have a solution.

What are some alternatives? Credit Card setup is very costly and complicated?

Other alternatives?

Thanks everyone.

You actually do not need to have a Paypal account in order to donate through Paypal. Once you click the donate button it will ask you to either log in to your Paypal account or simply pay by credit card / bank account transfer.

Maybe he just needs to let his members know that this is possible.

Users don't need a paypal account to pay into a paypal account.

Setting up a credit card facility is going to be more costly than just accepting paypal. Of course there's a tipping point though where it's better financially to accept cc in terms of fees etc (probably around $2000 a month in payments).

Edit: beaten to it!

There's also paymate, ebay ran them out of town when they made it paypal only, but they are still around and much better than paypal ever was.

You serious? Is this true?

A person can donate through someone else's paypal account icon on their website, and not need to have a Paypal account themselves? How do you transfer money to their Paypal account if we don't have a Paypal account ourselves?

And does this apply to ANY Paypal account user? Or just business and those with a Paypal merchant account with a merchant ID?

You need a paypal to receive, they don't need one to send funds, just a cc.

Yes absolutely, anybody can transfer funds to any Paypal account (standard personal one is fine) via the donate page with credit card.

Just try it out, click the donate button and you'll see. It should say up the top the amount you want to enter, then in the main text it will say:

Don't have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue

While offering the login on the right for users who already have a Paypal account.

It is true that the little continue link is quite small and easily missed, I wish that the donate buttons would take you directly to this page that the link takes you to anyhow.

But yeah, I think you just have to make the members aware of this and it should be no problem to make donations.

Ok so a person needs a CC? You cannot transfer money from a bank. eg Westpac, ANZ account to their paypal account if we don't have a paypal account ourselves?

Yes that's right. I guess technically you could use a Visa debit card or similar which most banks are giving out for free these days so that might do what you want...

I guess that's a matter of opinion. In my experience PayMate used to be good, but since high-tailing it to the USA, they've gone downhill bigtime. I would never recommend them anymore to anyone.

Sorry MrMozart I meant PayMate, not PayPal.

I've never had any issues with PayPal (with money going in or going out of my bank account).

Yeah I hadn't logged in for a while because of the ebay paypal scam, They seem to have lost a lot of options they used to have and it looked rather plain. So I agree I withdraw the paymate refferal
