Hey everyone, for the last week I have had difficulty connecting to my site via ftp. My username and password constantly get rejected. But they are correct. I have chased this up numerous times with my hosting provider and all they have said is to change from passive to active mode. This did nothing. The problems started the same day I had an SSL certificate installed on the domain. Would this have anything to do with it? Any help would be great. |

I am on a shared host but have not received anything new. I have been using the same ftp details as before. I will chase this up with them. Thanks. |

Well if you're using the domain name, assuming DNS has updated already then that probably won't be the issue. |

Hey everyone, for the last week I have had difficulty connecting to my site via ftp. My username and password constantly get rejected. What's the exact message you're getting? And, are you using ftp on a command line or via some sort of GUI client? |

The error is that the server keeps rejecting the password. That is it. I'm using a GUI interface – Fetch, CyberDuck and FTP on the Go on iPhonw. All programs give the same error. I have another domain set up with the same service provider and it works fine. The problems started to occur the same day the SSL certificate was installed. I've tried setting up new ftp accounts but it doesn't matter what I set up, I always get a password error. |

As the previous poster said you've probably got a new IP address. Are you trying to ftp domainname.com.au or www.domainname.com.au or ftp.domainname.com.au? Have you tried them all? Have you contacted your host? |

Have you contacted your host? Numerous times and still haven't received an answer. Is there any way of finding out my IP so I can try that? |

I read this today as I was having trouble with a FTP login for a old client. apparently they had a security scare and reset all FTP passwords. Same thing might have happened to you |

What LabMonkey said. A certain major Australian host had a security scare a while back — last year IIRC — and reset all their clients' FTP passwords without notifying them. Perhaps the same thing has happened here. |

are you absolutely certain you have the right username? Get the host to test it and see if it works for them to ensure it is actually working. Thirdly, test it from a DOS command window so you can see everything. Post the results of doing ALL of the above three and let us know! |

Thanks for the replies people. I've been in contact with the web host as it is still not working. Apparently they are having issues getting the ftp to work on the dedicated ip address. Not sure why this is so difficult, I would think it would be a common situation. The problem has been going on for 10 days now. |
