Recently my power button stopped working so I replaced the power button connecting to the mobo.

I'm using an old one from a computer from about 8 years ago on an ex58 motherboard; is there any potential issues here besides the cable being old?

Are the wires connected to the button still in tact?
Have they somehow have been damaged or come loose, might be that, otherwise might be a contact issue with where the button strikes to close the circuit.

Power buttons work the same as they always have. A new case should work with an old motherboard and vice versa.

Of course you don't need one. You can use the Power key on your keyboard, or the mouse. You just have to enable it in the BIOS.

no issues using the older one if it works. All they do is complete the circuit, there is nothing else that the switch does.

What happened was I think the button got dislodged and its physically impossible to reach it so I decided to replace the wire with another. It gets the job done, just want to double check its safe :D

The reason why I bought this up was after installing the new switch, after turning it on, it would turn off (this happened about twice over about half a week). Coincidence?

On the power on by keyboard, I'm currently having problems with that;
