I just read it! Funny....or Weird I reckon! So, arise gallant Macintoshers, arise from your ergonomic office chairs, your non-slip inflatable Pilates balls, your designer milk crates that you bought from a funky warehouse in Richmond specialising in vintage homewares. Are Macintoshers really like this? ARISE AND DEFY THE TREND. We shall not buy this new iPhone: let the commoners have it The iPhone is a good product why wouldnt you buy it! I think the writer has it all wrong! |

I think the author is playing on the idea that some people (who many call Mac zealots) believe that only the privileged should be able to have or use a Mac or any other Apple product. The fact that the "commoners" are now all buying an iPhone makes the iPhone not that special anymore. I think it's somewhat true to a small group of people — right at the time that the first iPhone 3G was released, my manager (who had a hacked iPhone 2G from the US) didn't like it because now all of the sudden everyone's going to have an iPhone and it won't be special anymore. Does this sentiment exist? Yes. Is it common? I don't think so. Personally I believe that if the product is really great (and I think the iPhone is), then why can't everyone have the opportunity to own one? |

So very bored with this crap. I realise it's a joke, but I know quite a few who would agree with this. I just want to shake these people silly and yell, "YOU'RE NOT THAT SPECIAL!! GET OVER YOURSELVES!" Ahhh... it shouldn't bother me so much, but it kinda does. It's just stupid. |

I think there's now three classes of Apple lovers: 1. Those that have used them through thick and thin, the ones that know that Steve is Jesus, and have owned Macs from the glory days, through the dark days, and back into the sunshine. They just sit back and nod when an Apple Lover #2 starts speaking. 2. Those that bought a Mac once they went Intel, because, you know, you could try it out safely without getting burned. Or you've just heard that they're good and wanted to try one out. Once you've tried it, though, you now start recoommending Macs to others that look at you strangely because last time they spoke to you, you told them that "Macs are only for those that think Steve Jobs is Jesus". 3. iPhone lovers. They couldn't give a rats about Macs. They don't belong in the Whirlpool Apple forum, for them its the Windows and iPhone forums. They watch the WWDC keynote and get annoyed and bored when anything not related to the next great iPhone is shown. They don't really like Apple, they just like gadgets. |

Lol. That article is so true. I'm not an 80s user and am an ex-pc convert but I switche long before intel. Now I've got the funky red kettle and the industrial aluminium desk. How lol! :) edit: oh and did I mention the retro G4 Cube? |

Thank mod for the better thread title change! 1. Those that have used them through thick and thin, the ones that know that Steve is Jesus, and have owned Macs from the glory days, through the dark days, and back into the sunshine. They just sit back and nod when an Apple Lover #2 starts speaking. That's me, and some of us loved our Nokia phone before Apple got into that game. |

Honestly I can't believe people get paid to write articles like this. Yeah. I get what the author was trying to do, but the execution just wasn't very good. Also, do journalists still get paid by the word? That might explain so much of the padding. Anyway, how about all the Mac-user anti-Intel sentiment of the 90s? Now the hardcore are all fawning over Nehalem. Hee hee! I remember when Wolfenstein 3D came out on the Mac. I went to an AUSOM meeting (a friend of mine was a Mac user at the time and invited me along) and they were all over it like flies to a fresh cow pat. I told them Wolfenstein was old-hat and that I was playing the far superior DooM on my PC. Cue icy glares of death and the retort of "but this is Wolfenstein 3D in 640x480! Your PC can't do that!". Well, no, but I didn't care – because I had DooM ;) Incidentally, it's quite legit to claim the iPhone is a "Mac", because it runs a variant of OS X (simply known as Mobile OS X). [disclaimer: Nowadays I use both OS X and Windows on a regular basis – and enjoy both for what they are.] |

2. Those that bought a Mac once they went Intel, because, you know, you could try it out safely without getting burned. There's also 2b: Developers that waited for the switch to x86, like to target the three primary desktop platforms and loooove the development tools that ship with OS X free of charge. :-) |

I think there's now three classes of Apple lovers: i actually think there is a fourth, which i fit into. Windows and Mac user who uses both without caring for either, and using them for what they bring to the PC (as in, personal computer, not an over-generalisation describing any computer running Windows). I have an iPhone, and love it over any phone ive ever used. Ive also been a Windows user for 17 years. But im also using Macs for my laptop (Macbook Pro), and for uni – Pro Tools/Logic/audio+video editing. Im not phased either way, and ill be using both platforms over my life. |

Maybe, since you love your iPhone, you could be an iPhone lover. does it really matter if someone isnt an "Apple lover"? and what categories are there? Apple vs everyone else? pretty shallow view IMO. if you find your jollies by loving an inanimate object, then be my guest. they are only tools to help with day to day living. you just epitomised one of the crazed Apple followers. to be honest its rather sad that people are such that way. theres more to life. |

It reads to me like he is pulling the piss out of mac lovers and their "perceived" pretentiousness....or am I reading this incorrectly? Who cares what you use as long as it does when you need, whether it be an apple or pc. Would be funny is people stopped buying them because they were no longer "exclusive" however :) |
