Hi,

I have trouble deciding whether its worth adding another GTX275 to make an SLI setup as I will be getting a Samsung 24" monitor very soon.

I have already got 1 GTX 275, but I want to know whether its better to wait it out until DirectX 11 or faster card?

This is on an i7 setup btw...

What you think..

DX11 cards will be expensive when they first come out, meaning you'd have to wait another few months (at least) for their prices to come down. Then you'll have to wait for DX11 games to come out to take advantage of the new thing. More $$$.

But surely a single 275 is enough to power 1920x1200 gaming?

Yeah, but its stretching it really, I'm the kind who only enjoys games at near max or maximum settings.

If I was in your position I would go for it, I mean ive got HD4890CF atm on a 22" (1680x1050) and still see a big performance increase (Crysis max with 8AA finally!!). What PSU do you have?

Someone told me once that when new DX11 cards come out, the price on the old nVidia cards like GTX 275, 285, 295 etc will plummet. Maybe hang in there till the end of the year...

Just try the single 275 on the screen, and if you're not satisfied, just grab another 275.

Why on earth bother with another 275?

Do yourself a favour and grab a decent SSD, and think about another 275 in a bunch of month (they will be lots cheaper).

As previous poster said, "new" cards, GTX300 or whatever will be ramped up to hell & back initially.

Best to go for best price-point... SSD would give you huge jump in overall performance, SLI will not benefit you in "every" game. That is what I would do anyhow, add a few bucks and look at SSD, rather than SLI.

SSD is not going to boost my FPS (Frames per second).
My WD Caviar black 640gb does the job just fine. I don't I need SSD. Crysis loads under 13 seconds, Race driver Grid even loads faster. Loading times in games in my i7 rig is pretty impressive.

Games from now are going to benefit from SLi/CF anyway.

When it comes to fast storage for my system I'll create another thread, but thanks for the input..

WD black will do for now... My main concern is big screen gaming at high res and on max settings.

EDIT: Since the GTX 275 are going around $315 right? So looks like a good time to get another one and then upgrade in 18 months....? with next gen cards?

I thinks its an Antec true power 750W...Should be plenty enough for SLi..

That should be fine and yes I don't think an SSD is that worthwhile for purely games (at least not at current prices). Grab a second GTX275 soon so that you get at least 6 months use before the Nvidia DX11 cards are released at which point I'm sure you will get the upgrade itch again =) I don't see prices dropping again until ATI release their DX11 cards so this is a good a time as any to buy.

Ati should release their DX11 cards around October/November and Nvidia around Jan 2010.

go with GTX275 SLI, at least you know you won't have any issues with max settings on any game crysis included.

as for DX11, all well and good that people are measuring against when its proposed release date is, knowing nvidia this will be pushed back and if not, the prices for the new cards will nowhere be worth it until at least a few months later down the track or the first revision of the cards etc...

so i'd say your good for at least a year with gtx275 SLI before moving to DX11...
