I've just started that, and I have to say I HATE the control system compared to the original fable, and your feet "slide" over the ground when walking, which gives me a disconnect feeling. Poor effort, I'm sure the further I get I will begin to forgive it though.

Is it just me or are the new 360 games staying at a high price for several months, RE5 is still $90 at most shops if not even dearer as well GOW2?

Gears of War 2 is $47.82 in the upcoming Big W sale which starts July 2nd but other than that games tend to be cheaper when they are first released for the first month then just go straight to RRP. Hard pressed to find Left 4 Dead any cheaper than retail but when it first came out it was 70 odd.

yep, a full 18 months later. it was a similar situation with Halo 3. they (retailers) don't need to do anyone any favours when they know people will pay it for a highly popular game.

I played a few rounds of Frontlines last night... in my opinion the most under-rated 360 game so far. It's fantastic! Had a real blast last night playing it! I highly recommend it to everyone.

It's $20 at EB at the moment.

Hmmm...I am trying to get around having to take my music collection on an external hard drive when taking the xbox to friends houses...would be nice to be able to have my music collection permanently stored on the xbox hard drive...

As for copying your mp3's or whatever over – I could not do it.

Simply because there is no option. There are no options to select copy or transfer.

I have gazillions of mp3's on a portable HD. I also have DVD's and CD's full of music.

I have tried em all. But like i said there is just no option to transfer them over.

The last time I tried it the console automagically pulled the artist and track names from somewhere. I guess it could have been extended information on the CD itself but it also could have been off the net.

I have streaming setup at home, but I also want to be able to take the console wherever I might be going (friends house, party, weekend away etc) and have my music with me, without have to bring another device (ie: external hard drive, which may need another power source).

OK – so I had a bit of a play around with music and CD's and DVD's etc...

When I put in a DVD or CD with MP3's on it, it allows me to open it in the music player, but I can only "Edit or Save Playlist".

When I put in an actual Audio CD, the music player starts up straight away, and it has the option to "Rip CD", which I did, and it saved it to the hard drive.

I spent bloody 2 weeks last year ripping all of my CD's to my pc...be f#@ked if I'm doing that again!

So looks like I am stuck with streaming at home, and taking an external hard drive with me when going out.

I can live with that, but what I hate is that the xbox shows every single artist, even those from "various" albums where they contribute only 1 song!

Can I get the xbox to show the folders that I have made for my albums (eg: ACDC-BlackIce; ABBA-Gold etc...)?

Do you want to blow your warranty? :)

Also you tried other remotes, right? Perhaps the media remote is stuffed? I'm guessing you also have the one that came with the HD-DVD player, so chances are it is the IR receiver that's stuffed.

Have you double checked in the Settings to make sure it's turned on and accepting remote control signals?

Did you recently change faceplates? I've had some issue with 3rd party faceplates which give really poor IR reception. I generally just use the original faceplate now because of that. That may not be the problem though.

I was playing CoD WAW earlier on and my xbox froze twice. The first time was only for a second before returning to normal, the second time (about an hour later) it froze up for a good 3~5 seconds. Is this a sign that a RROD is on its way?

I haven't had any lock ups in new games for ages, but whenever I play oblivion, GRAW or some other older games I get lock ups all over the place and always have.

And to further this, I recall my Sega Mega Drive freezing a couple of times. And when it froze...it really let you know about it...complete with full psychedelic mishmash of colours on the display along with a the ugliest loudest cacophony of squeals, beeps and buzzing noises from the TV.

Yikes...thankfully that was extremely rare.

Well put and totally true. I think there is also a component of cheaper manufacturing standards to reduce cost in there though. Also aided by the mindset that they're not designed to last you too long so you can go and buy a replacement ASAP.

In almost all cases the translated versions include the original English. It supports PAL so it should work on local consoles.

When should I recharge my controller exactly? When the ring starts circling or when the controller turns off? The circling ring being caught be my peripheral vision is so so annoying but I don't know if I should let the charge deplete before I plug in the cable.

If you are using rechargeable lithium batteries, charge whenever you like, trying to avoid completely discharging them, otherwise most other batteries work best if u do full charge cycles AFAIK.

And had another one with a different code, anyone know the solution to this? Everything else works fine and I'm pretty sure its not the server.

Anyone know some good reliable sites to find out which Xbox 360 games are region free? Looking to get Marvel: Ultimate Alliance on ebay... cheapest is from America at $14US.

I've done some googling and found a couple that indicate it is region free, but no idea how accurate the sites are.

I usually use play-asia as my source for region free as they list most versions there.

I walked into JB and noticed that they had a whole bunch of EA games for <$20. Like Pro Street for $17.98.

So I bought 3 titles, then walked to the trade-in counter 5m away and told them I want to trade them in for a copy of Call of Juarez. They looked at me funny and called the manager, but eventually let me do it.

I might as well have asked for a $40 discount and not bothered them...

Depends what you're after. They've got NBA titles, NFL too. They also had hockey 08 for $20. Pro Street was $18. If you're into sports, they had a few OK titles worth checking out.

ATM, DSE's Gears of War xbox deal seems OK. They go for $418 and that's a pretty darn good price. Otherwise $398 for the base console with no games... but for an extra $20, you'd be stupid not to buy the Gears bundle.

I don't think you can region filter that I know of. Still generally I've had no problems. It's pretty easy to find Aussies to play with.

Live, without starting a 'religious' debate, is much better than PSN. You get what you pay for I suppose. :)

i would pay on ps3 if they region filted some games...

Define region filtered, because I've been in quite a few matches with bad connections. (Though significantly less than in other games... so less red bars for sure).

Once I've copied a game to the hard drive, can I then simply go to "My xbox" and select the first icon "Play Rainbow Six", or do I have to specify that I want to play from the hard drive, by pressing "Y" and choosing "play from hard drive"?

The previous copy was traded for Bad Company.

(I know this is a 360 thread, but DSE are selling Wii + Wii Fit for $388... that's almost better value than the 360 deals I've seen).

Very much so, it's ok to play, but once done it's a trade back job. It's story quite disjointed too, unless you knew what the story was you would have no idea WTF was going on. You get pre rendered cut scenes (using the game engine.... what is the point of that? It's just a blurry version of what you see in game) from fairly random points during the story with no interconnecting points.

It's really werid, half the stuff you could do in the previous game has been taken out. Even little things like being able to spin the black-board in your common room and set books on fire (and attempt to do the same to the cat!), the spell list is odd as well... two of the spells you use all the time (pull and push) are not even listed on it.

I'd go as far as say it's no longer a RPG (even if the prev was a very lite RPG)

Indeed it will! And it already has. The trade value went down 50% in one day. :)

GAME were giving $50 on day 1, $37 on day 2 and $30 on day 3 when I went to trade in my original copy because I really wanted Bad Company.

I subsequently bought a second copy to play myself... but I doubt I'll trade it in unless it's for the 3 for 1 deal at JB later on.

Kinda sucks that you played GTA4 first... as now you'll probably compare it a lot to that.

Just take Crackdown as a light hearted crazy romp and you'll enjoy it a lot more. But yeah, get a few skill levels up and it's a whole new game.

It's not really the same sorta game... well in a way it is. I tend to think that Dave Jones took the great free-roaming from GTA 1 and 2 plus the mindless blowing stuff up, and distilled it into Crackdown.

You end you have a game where you do nothing jut free roam, jump from roof to roof, and blow stuff up with no annoying missions to get in the way.

Edit: and yeah, you need to get you levels up a bit before you can really run rampage. Getting better weapons helps too.

For some reason my 360 wont detect my playlists I have setup on my Ipod. It picks up the actual drive fine, and I can play songs by album/artist etc, but when I go into playlists it says 'no saved playlists'. Any ideas?

2. Purchase 360 arcade and sell my other xbox on ebay, less my hard drive.

I'm assuming that your monitor has DVI / VGA connections? Option #1 won't work easily / cheaply. Option #2 will cost a bit, but may be worth it for a new 360 anyway.

Option #3, assuming it has DVI / VGA is plug in your PC via DVI and get a VGA cable for your 360. Get a proper MS one, as a lot (not all, but a lot) of the third party ones have issues.

How about using the 360 on the VGA and getting the PC connected with HDMI? Tis how my setup is.

Or get a VGA switch (a KVM)

There won't be any noticable difference between HDMI / DVI on your screen from your PC. Given that you'd have DVI connections on your video card, it'd make more sense to use that.

The Xbox side of things is a tough question. Using your existing console, going the VGA cable route wouldn't be too bad. You'd be able to convert the RCA audio and run that through your PC / speakers directly for sound and you'd get a decent picture on screen.

Getting a new console is a bit of work (selling old, buying new, transferring DRM licencing for all your existing content on the HDD to the new console), but then you've just got the simplicity of using the HDMI cable to your screen and having sound out from the headphone jack on the monitor.

Your call, really. :)

That's how I have mine set up when I use it in the office at home. Even on my TV which has HDMI, I actually prefer to use VGA sometimes. The image is clearer, as it runs on the TV's native resolution, whereas HDMI runs at 720p, which is less than the 768p of the TV.

TBH you'd be best buying a new PRO with the 60gb drive, as the drives are better for saving the game and playing from HDD, and the chipset is newer / cooler / uses less power and *probably* more reliable.

Buy a new one, flog the old one complete for whatever you can get.

beware though, if you want optical audio or stereo LR out with a HDMI cable in , you either need to buy the $50 audio out cable, OR rip the shrouding off the present cable you have (messy, but works and is free)

I already had the trial downloaded. So I went into the game options and went 'unlock full game'. I just deleted the Worms download I had then, and re-downloaded and it's all working now. Time to blow some worms up :)

One can also use the "Play to" feature from Win 7, whereby anything on your library & on ur PC can be remotely played by the 360

The copy of Crackdown I have won't install at all. I don't think it is related to the beta, because all it says is a "chance to download when it is released".

Mine is the Asian version from play-asia if it makes any difference (doubt it). Unfortunately the US$14.90 special is over.

I've been spoiled with games loading from the HDD :P

But yeah, it was fine for over a year, and just started driving me nuts the past few weeks.

Well this is flapped up.
I bought Blue Dragon on Saturday or Sunday from Jbhifi and I've been busy since, so I didn't open it or anything until 30 minutes ago.
The game has flapping scratches ALL OVER all three discs. ALL OVER them. Like, there's a one or two cm gap between them all.
I'd return it, but the store I bought it from is an hour away. Can I exchange it at a closer store? Or am I going to have to drive all the way to Rouse Hill and smack a bitch on the weekend?
Just an edit to clarify, I went to install the first disc to my HDD, and it got halfway through and went "Nope. Disc is too flapped up to do THAT!" I've bought games from Cash Converters that didn't do that, and they were in better condition too.
Plus I bought the friggin' thing NEW.

It happens unfortunately. I had a copy of Futurama which was super scratched. Returned it and the exchanged copy was mint. I mean, not even a single microscopic trace of a scratch.

Can I take it to a different store? Or am I going to have to go all the way out of my way to yell at a giggly, vapid checkout chick.

Hmmmmm. With EB you can do a different store. JB I'm not so sure. My guess is that you can.

I'd call them up and ask. Explain that this place is ages away and you want to return it to this store for an exchange.

Unfortunately you still need an actual HD enclosure for this to work. Finding one on eBay means you might as well get a 20G second hand HD instead. I would imagine they're tricky to find by themselves.

It's relatively safe and well worth doing. The catch is that you need a specific type of HD for it to work. The ones I used are really hard to source now, but it might work with more recent models with a higher capacity (though you're limited to 120, as the box won't read more than that at the moment).

Yeah. A friend recently picked up a 360 and its incredible how many great games he's been able to get for so little money. Its almost criminal to see when I've originally paid $80+ for them!

Haha... I've turned on my 360 and PC before to provide heat in the room where it sits and not played it.

I've gone through 2 consoles, 1 pro and 1 elite... had all sorts of errors/problems and sent them back a number of times. From memory...; PRO = RRoD, Rom drive read error and 2nd Rom drive read error. At that point was sick of it and got an Elite = Power Supply died 1-2 weeks of getting it and not too long ago E74.

Fun Times :-)

My Ps3 used to heat up my bedroom something fierce. It could actually make me sweat in the middle of winter. My Xbox doesn't do anything like that.

Going to exchange my copy of Blue Dragon on the weekend, so that's pretty good I guess.

My 360 has been making grinding noises and i think it scratches some of my disc (they are still playable but online for fifa 09 sometimes says unplayable disc)

Is your console vertical too? Happens to me with Halo 3, but this is the only game it happens for. Either put it horizontal, install the game to the hdd (Halo 3 isn't an option) or give it a slight tap on the side. The latter stops said grinding instantly, and i've been doing it (shhh, don't tell M$) ever since Halo 3 came out.

These things are great, but I'm worried about how well they handle long gaming hours.

I used to use my console vertically. Everytime (twice now) I turned it horizontally, it started to fail!

I now have it horizontal, less noise and works much better.

It's simulated 5.1 using 4 drivers in each ear which works surprisingly well. The subwoofer thing...it's pretty punchy but I wouldn't call it a subwoofer.

The AX Pro's are fantastic but way overpriced, I don't think I ever would have paid RRP.

Meh, I'll stick to the actual 5.1 for now and disturb my neighbors/girlfriend in the process. :D

Hmmmm, I just used the VGA cable which has the 3.5mm jack. Hopefully someone else can answer this better. Otherwise lemme do some quick Googleing. :)

These cost me $60 on special, i think. Some Skullcandy ones... I just meant their run-of-the-mill in the sense it's just 2ch headphones with a 3.5m jack...

I was looking at getting a pair of Turtlebeach 5.1 wireless headphones, but i couldn't confirm if they delivered to Aus at the time... Wouldn't mind going back and maybe picking up a pair even now...

I think for audio, you have two options. You either buy the official Microsoft Xbox 360 HDMI cable, which comes with an audio adapter, or you hack the xbox component cable so that it fits in alongside an HDMI cable, and use it for audio output. I believe there are tutorials on how to do this on the net.

The MS cable is not cheap, although I remember seeing the audio adapter on ebay for rather cheap recently.

Personally I broke the shroud off the standard cable and used it's optical whilst using general HDMI cable. the only issue is if you change channel on your screen at all, the xbox reboots –

There's a way around that but it involves more damage to the cable than I wanted to do.

RE sound -= there are converters for $5 on dealextreme that allow normal mic / headphone 3.5mm in and out, so you can use a mic but have your speech out directed to "speakers" then use headphones... if you see what I mean, cheap solution.

True, it's not as crisp, but component does do 1080p. In most cases, people won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

Though if the option to use HDMI is there, by all means use it. :)

Yeah, the 2007WFP (which I have too, awesome 8-bit monitor) only does 1680x1050 (not 1920x1080 for 1080p).

When I have it connected to my Dell, I use the VGA cable to get the native 1680x1050 (much crisper image) and then plug the sound into my speakers via the 3.5mm jack. I only get stereo, but it does the job.

On the note of those monitors... it's such a shame manufacturers don't make any more affordable 8 bit monitors... it's all TN crap. I can't believe people put up with this rubbish.

The 2007WFP was flawless. The viewing angle was amazing. No color distortion, nothing. And it displayed all 16.7 million colors. Not like the crappy TN panels that trick our eyes into thinking there are more on the screen.

Yep, exactly. And you can get a $3 bit from DSE that converts RCA to 3.5mm jack... which would go straight into your speakers like you would plug the PC into them.

You can actually buy switch boxes for optical audio. I picked one up on ebay yesterday. Its from the UK, but still useful, as I have a similar need in 3 optical devices, and one speaker set with one optical input.

LOL, I just called EB Games to ask for the Component HD cable, and she didn't even know what it was. She told me she had the HDMI cable from MS with the optical output for $59.95. Don't really want to spend that much.

with acceptable lag too! – although my screen IS 1920x1200, it only does 1080P with VGA, you can get 1080i over component. I think A04 revision or newer supported it.... but my memory's poor.

Ok what the hell! I just realised that I have not got a 256MB memory unit. Is there any special place where these are kept? Because I can't find it.

That's what I had originally and I was very impressed. The decoder died on me after about 6 months and I wrote a nasty letter to Tritton asking for a refund and they said I could either have the refund or a upgrade to the AX Pros. Went with the upgrade and have been 100% satisfied. Fixed all the issues I had with teh AX360s and better audio quality to boot.

Because I already have a PS3 and a Wii and I wanted a cheap 360. All I am missing out on is the HDD... big deal.

I have one concern. The disc drive is extremely loud when standing vertical, it makes my whole table vibrate and overtakes my computer fans, and they are loud.

Yes it's a noisy bugger and that's where the HDD would have come in handy.

You can install games to the disk so the only time the disc drive is accessed is to verify the media is in the tray.

Thats why MS released the new dashboard that allows users with hard drive to install there games to the hard drive. Which considerably reduces the noise. Although you still need to have the game in the drive to start the game as its needed for verification of installed games.

That's what I mean. 160 points, or $3 for a virtual outfit that nobody else looks at? 50pts I might agree with, but 160 is just greedy on their part in my opinion. Perhaps for a really cool suit from a game, but not for a generic item.

And if I saw someone with a hat that set them back $3, I wouldn't say 'hey, that is cool'... I'd say: 'what a douche for wasting $3 on that crap'.

But that's just me. I'm sure plenty of people will blow their hard earned cash on virtual clothing.

Yes it's a noisy bugger and that's where the HDD would have come in handy.

You can install games to the disk so the only time the disc drive is accessed is to verify the media is in the tray.

Oi! It went well. Not my fault I happened to have a PC motherboard with issues!

It worked eventually and still going strong. Well worth the $100 saving.

Push for $30, then you'd have yourself a really good deal. Even old second hand controllers are quite good. I still have my original one which went through countless hours of clicking in COD4 before I figured out that you don't need to hold it down. :(

Hmmm, not sure. I had the BEVS model: 120G. Though the 160 work fine too, you just can't use the extra 40G.

They may have introduced a limit, since previously people would just keep creating new accounts to get unlimited Gold.

It's not just sending a messsage, it's sending a chat request – thats how they avoid blocked communications. If they are blocked, their messages don't get through, but Chat Requests do... if anyone does know how they spam hundreds of chat requests, please let me know!

Nothing stops you from opening up new accounts. After you open up three accounts, you recieve 1 month free gold XBL access. If you open up more accounts on top of those three, you are no longer given free XBL and you must pay for your subscription right away.

Will there be any problems connecting a wireless USB keyboard to my Xbox? I'm up for a new keyboard/mouse and am considering going wireless so that I can use it on my 360 for MSN etc. Is it just a matter of plugging the receiver into the console?

The whole point of the 3.5mm audio out on the 2408WFP is for HDMI audio. That is its only purpose.

I am not 100% sure I have never try it before but as my previous understanding DLCs are tie with your gold a/c + your console serial no. So you cannot DL the game with another console.

Thats correct.

Thats incorrect, you can use your GT to download it (and play) onto any console you like. However you have to be online for this to work.

This does cause a situation where your console has been replaced where you can't use any of your DLC when live is down (or you are not connected). Microsoft have a tool on their web-site which allows you to transfer licianced from one console, to another. They only allow you to use it once a year however (to stop people from selling their liciances)
